Privacy policy

The short version: this website sets no cookies, we never sell anything about you, and the survey only asks for your email if you want us to get in touch.

Edgewater is a pool alarm in development, built in San Diego by Zoe Hassett and Elias Alamat. This page covers this website (edgewater.live), our pool safety survey and email with us. The product itself isn't for sale yet; we'll publish a privacy policy for the device and app before anyone can buy one. How the camera is designed to protect your privacy is on our safety and privacy page.

This website

No cookies. The site doesn't set cookies or use ad trackers, and it doesn't follow you to other sites. That's why there's no cookie banner.

Visitor counts. We use Vercel Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It records the page, the site that sent you (if any), your country, and your browser, operating system and device type. It doesn't use cookies. It tells visits apart with a code made from your request that's thrown away after 24 hours, so it can't recognize you on another day. We only see totals.

Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, its servers receive your IP address and browser details when your browser asks for a page, and keep short-term logs to run and protect the service.

Icons. The small icons on the site load from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when you visit. Google says it doesn't set cookies or use this to build profiles.

The pool safety survey

The survey runs on Google Forms, so Google's privacy policy also applies while you fill it in. It asks about your pool, your household and how you keep the pool safe today. It asks for your email only if you want a free test install, an email at launch or a call.

What we use it for: understanding how San Diego families keep their pools safe, deciding what to build, choosing pilot homes, and contacting you about what you asked for. We may share combined results, such as "most families we surveyed have a fence", in school and competition materials. Those never include names, emails or anything that points to you.

Who sees it: the two of us. We don't sell, rent or trade your answers or your email, and we don't use them for advertising.

How long we keep it: only as long as we need it for the pilot and launch. Ask us at any time and we'll delete your answers and email.

Email

If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can reply and follow up. We won't add you to a mailing list unless you ask.

Children

Edgewater is about children's safety, but this site and the survey are for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete anything we have about you. Email ealamat@sandiego.edu and we'll respond within 30 days. If you live in California, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act; we honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
